Chairman's Update - September 2026

4 min read

This month’s update comes a little later than usual. With plenty happening on the pitch and a busy schedule keeping up with our extensive social media coverage, the last few weeks have certainly kept me occupied.

On the Pitch

The month started in disappointing fashion, with defeats to Hertford in the league and Takeley bringing our involvement in the FA Trophy to an end. The lads didn’t really do themselves justice in either game and, ultimately, we got what we deserved.

Three of our remaining four home league matches came against sides who will be challenging in the top half of the table, and all three ended in 3-2 defeats. On each occasion, we gave ourselves too much to do after poor starts and were left trying to fight our way back into the game.

Our one league victory came against a resurgent Hadley FC, although we certainly rode our luck during the first half.

Last night’s impressive penalty shoot-out victory over National League South side Slough Town in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup showed what this group is capable of. That is the level of performance, determination and belief the lads need to produce week in, week out if we are going to climb the league table. #COYD

Upcoming

October is an extremely busy month for The Ducks, with a further seven league fixtures scheduled over the next three weeks.

With several important games against teams around us in the table, there is a real opportunity to pick up valuable points and push beyond mid-table, where we firmly believe this team can be this season.

Your support can make a real difference, so come down to The Meadow, get behind the lads and help us make home advantage count.

Squad and Fixture Updates

Our match against Winslow United has been switched, we will now play them at home on Wednesday 4th November and away on Saturday 27th February.

Unfortunately, our captain Jack Wood suffered a knee injury during the warm-up ahead of our game against Waltham Abbey, which is expected to keep him out of action for a significant period. Jack is currently waiting for the swelling to subside before undergoing an MRI scan to determine the full extent of the injury.

On behalf of everyone at the club and all our supporters, we wish Jack well with his recovery and rehabilitation and look forward to seeing our captain back on the pitch when the time is right.

Aaron Onginjo joined the club from Newport Pagnell and has made an immediate impact, producing exceptional performances in every match. His impressive start was recognised when he was named our Player of the Month for September.

Marvin Emmanuel has been added to the squad, while Kian Henry has returned to the club for a second spell. Archie Quinlan has also extended his loan from Wycombe Wanderers, providing further strength and depth to our defence.

There have been two departures in Exaucee N’Sunsa and Adam Martin. We would like to thank both players for the efforts whilst with the Ducks.

Supporters & Attendance

Our home attendances over the past five months have averaged more than 200 per match, our highest average for five seasons. Let’s keep building that momentum together. If you require help getting to matches, please use the LiftShare WhatsApp group.

Free Under‑16s season tickets remain available, and adult/concession tickets can be purchased online.

Club Insights

We are also running a series of articles giving supporters an insight into what goes on behind the scenes at the football club and introducing some of the people who help make things happen.

The articles are appearing in our matchday programme and will also be published on the club website over the coming weeks.

Read the Marlow programme to find out more about our social media team and what goes into making matchdays happen.

Community & Events

Our match against Leverstock Green on Saturday 24th October has been designated Mayor’s Champions Day, when we will celebrate the achievements of our Pan Disability, Junior, Girls, Ladies and Walking Football teams.

As part of the day, we will be holding a charity raffle in aid of Aylesbury Homeless Action Group, together with a food collection for Youth Concern. Refreshments will be available throughout the day, along with an ice cream van.

We would also like to thank the Mayor of Aylesbury, Sherrilyn Bateman, for her continued support of the club and for sponsoring the match.

During half term, Aylesbury United will be exhibiting at The Space in Friars Square. There will be a series of activities connected with the club, keep an eye out on social media for more information.

Behind the scenes, we have been exploring how AUFC can play a bigger role within our local community. We have already started conversations with charities, community organisations and local businesses, and one principle has quickly become clear: before deciding what we can do, we need to listen.

We are therefore hoping to hold an AUFC Community Listening Day before Christmas, bringing together people from across Aylesbury with different experiences and perspectives.

The purpose will be simple: to understand what is already working, where the gaps are and where AUFC could genuinely be useful. We don’t want to assume what our community needs. We want the community to help shape the part we can play.

Sponsorship & Partnerships

We are delighted to welcome Perry's as our Youth Pathway Partner and Academy home shirt sponsor for this season. This partnership allows us to help young people move through our academy side as they prepare for a future as a footballer. Further information will be available in upcoming programmes.

Our Every Goal Counts Community Fund has now reached £473, thanks to the 22 goals scored in league and cup matches so far this season.

If you haven’t already signed up, please visit our website and get involved in this fun and engaging way of raising money to support football and community projects across Aylesbury.

Leaflets are available at every home game, so please pick up a few and help us spread the word by sharing them with local shops and businesses in your part of town.

The more people and businesses we can get involved, the greater the difference we can make together.

Finally, my thanks to everyone who gives their time to Aylesbury United. Whether your contribution is seen on a matchday or takes place quietly behind the scenes, you all play your part in making this such a special club.

John Woodhouse

Chairman, Aylesbury United FC
