On April 30th 2026, my chapter drew to a close, I could write a book, (but I’ll let Mike do that) so I’ll keep this brief. The journey from Buckingham Road to Chesham (via many other grounds) may have ended for me as Chairman, but I am left with very fond memories, trials, tribulations and heartaches.
I may have failed in getting you back into the town, but I can assure you that I have covered every blade of grass that had been identified as a possible ground without success. The councils have said, ‘’find land, and we will help you build a stadium’’.
On the horizon we can still pursue two potential sites; Woodlands, that will have a superb sporting facility in a development 2.5 miles from the town centre. This site could ‘house us’ in 3 to 4 years’ time, and then there’s Stoke Mandeville Sports Stadium (The Guttman Centre). Both of which we are in positive talks with, so there is hope, and I am positive that one would deliver.
Knowing the club will continue to flourish under new ownership – A community club run by the fans. Hopefully, they will build on the work my directors and myself have worked tirelessly on for more than 20 years.
We have made great progress as a club. In 2004 we had three teams playing under the AUFC badge - now over fifty+ and have proved we are capable of reaching higher levels.
When the journey began in 2004, It was hard, we had to fight for our status in the Southern League, prove beyond doubt we could run the club, and had sufficient finances to see us through a season. I had unbelievable support from a few people to help achieve this, and would personally like to put on record my thanks to Ken Turnbull, Alan Sherwell, John Newman, Chris Dann, Steve Baker ,Wendy Brandon, Richard Shepard, Pete Ash and Ron Schimdt and too many more to mention (Not forgetting more recently Ian Pluck) for their key roles in the early days, and continued helping in keeping the club running after the Buckingham Road lease expired in 2006.
So a new chapter begins and massive thank-you to you, the fans, you are exceptional, passionate and committed, and again for you, more than anyone, I wish the new owners every success, and grateful the clubs future is in safe hands.
