Hertford Town Preview

The Ducks are looking to make it three league games unbeaten tomorrow night as they host Hertford Town at the Meadow.
The Blues were founded in 1901, originally as Port Vale Rovers. They play their football out of Hertingfordbury Park and have been there for well over 100 years. The town have bounced around the non-league pyramid for their entire history, with the highest level they've ever played at being step 3.
They joined the Southern League Central Division One in the 2021/22 season and have been in the league ever since. They have steadily improved their league finishes since joining the league, finishing 16th, 14th, 14th, 13th, and 6th. Last season's sixth-placed finish saw them accumulate 77 points after 42 games whilst scoring 110 goals in the process. The most goals that anyone in the league had scored. Ultimately it wasn't enough for a playoff place, and they finished three points shy of fifth place, Thame United.
Hertford started this season well, picking up two wins and two draws out of their first five league games. One of those wins came against the Ducks in a 4-2 hammering in Hertfordshire. Due to fixture scheduling, Hertford will be the first side we face twice in the league, and we are only in October! After those first five matches, Hertford's season started to coattail.
They were knocked out of both the FA Trophy and FA Cup but, more importantly, have struggled in the league ever since. Since the victory versus the Ducks back in early September, they have only won one league game. This run of form has seen the Blues slip down the table to 17th place, just two places outside the relegation zone.
This makes Wednesday nights’ game huge. Hertford sit on 13 points, whilst the Ducks sit on 10. If results go the way of Aylesbury, they could leapfrog the visitors and be outside the relegation zone for the first time in a while. If you can get down to Chesham, please do, as we try to win another vital relegation six-pointer!
